Enos Leek 1805 - 1881

Enos Leek was born on September 25, 1805 in Hamden, New Haven County, Connecticut United States to Thomas Leek and Rhoda Alling, and had siblings Abigail Leek, Michael Leek, Thomas Leek, David Leek, Russell Leek, Asa Leek, Horace Leek, Rhoda Leek, and Dana Winston Leek. He married Rebecca Stratton, and had children Rhoda Leek, John Leek, George Leek, and Ruth Leek. Enos Leek died at age 75 years old on February 20, 1881 in Highland Township, Oakland County, MI, and was buried in March 1881 at Highland Plain Cemetery in Highland Township.

In 1805, in the year that Enos Leek was born, Joseph Smith Jr. was born on December 23rd in Sharon, Vermont. He grew up on a series of tenant farms in Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York and when he was 24, he published the Book of Mormon. By the time he died at the age of 38, he had tens of thousands of followers in his church - the Church of Latter Day saints.

In 1821, Enos was 16 years old when on July 10th, the United States took possession of the recently acquired territory of Florida from Spain. Spain could no longer afford to support the area so, through a treaty, the US received East and West Florida. Future President Andrew Jackson briefly served as governor of the territory.
