Eric George Margetts was born on May 26, 1938 to Ivy Irene (Bennett) Margetts and Frank James Margetts. He married Dorothy Irene (Pohlner) Margetts, and they were married until death separated them. He had a child Wendy Robyn Margetts. Eric Margetts died at age 76 years old on April 24, 2015 in Ipswich, Ipswich City County, QLD Australia, and was buried at Dimboola Cemetery, in Dimboola, Hindmarsh Shire County, VIC.

Late of Bundaleer Lodge Ipswich, formerly of Lowood, devoted and loving husband of Jeanette, loved father of Tammy, Sharon, Wendy, Russell, Katrina, stepfather of Karen, Jennifer and Robert. Will be dearly missed with 60 years of Scouting experience, particularly at Glenore Grove.

In 1938, in the year that Eric George Margetts was born, on October 30th, a Sunday, The Mercury Theatre on the Air broadcast Orson Welles' special Halloween show The War of the World's. A clever take on H.G. Wells' novel, the show began with simulated "breaking news" of an invasion by Martians. Because of the realistic nature of the "news," there was a public outcry the next day, calling for regulation by the FCC. Although the current story is that many were fooled and panicked, in reality very few people were fooled. But the show made Orson Welles' career.

Did you know?

In 1948, Eric was just 10 years old when on January 30th, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in New Delhi by a member of a Hindu nationalist party who thought that Gandhi was too accommodating to Muslims. The man, Nathuram Godse, shot Gandhi 3 times. He died immediately. The shooter was tried, convicted, and hung in November 1949.
