Erich was born in Hawley, Clay, Minnesota on Sept. 7, 1916. According to Census records the family moved to Merrill, Lincoln, Wisconsin sometime between spring of 1920 to spring of 1921, because his brother Elmer was born in Wisconsin in April of 1921. He grew up in the Merrill-Gleason area until at least 1940 when he registered for the draft for World War 2 on Oct 14, 1940 as per his draft registration card. He served in the Army as a heavy equipment operator and was discharged in 1944. He is found in the Milwaukee area after the war. He married Jeanne Carroll on September 15, 1946 at Augustina Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. They had 2 children, both adopted when they were babies. They also fostered many children through the years. Sometime in the 1960's they bought a farm in Sullivan, Wisconsin about 40 miles west of Milwaukee. They farmed corn and hay and many animals there. He also had a job as a heavy equipment operator for the county. I remember going out there with my parents a number of times and occasionally stayed a few days with them. He brewed a SMALL amount of "moonshine" once in a while. That where i got my first taste of the stuff. That was the once and only time I've ever had it. No thanks! No more for me. The kids, David and Jane grew up there, married and stayed in the area. No more than about 20 miles in any direction. David had a son. Don't know if he got divorced or not, but he died of lung cancer on November 14, 2019. He was 65. Jane got married 3 times and divorced twice. Last I knew she was running a bar in the area with her husband Artie Cavallo. I think it was in Jefferson. Uncle Erich had retired but still lived on the farm and worked in his daughters bar part time. He walked down his driveway every day to get his mail. He died in 2020 at the age of 104. Quite a guy for sure.
