He had siblings Elizabeth Ann (Searle) Nightingale, Caroline Louisa Searle, John William Searle, Florence Buncil Searle, Lillie Maude Searle, Leonard Edwin Searle, George Searle, Alfred Henry Searle, William Albert Searle, George James Searle, and John Francis Searle. He married Ethel Elizabeth (Drayton) Searle in 1908, and had children Clarence Ernest Searle, Francis Clifford Searle, and Marie Jean Elizabeth (Searle) Thomson. Ernest Searle died at age 40 years old on June 8, 1923 in Geelong, Greater Geelong City County.

    The Geelong Advertiser. Vic. 9th June 1923. SEARLE. - On the 8th June, 1923, at his residence "Hazeldene," 12 Noble street, Newtown, Geelong, Arthur Ernest ( Ernie), the dearly loved husband of Ethel Searle, and devoted father of Clarence, Frank, and little Marie. Aged 40 years.

On June 2nd, the Philippines officially declared war on the United States.
