He married Dorothy Maxine (Kerns) Tinsman in 1958 in Martinsburg, Berkeley County, WV, and had a child John David (TinsmAn). Ernest Tinsman died at age 81 years old on February 14, 2018 at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Annandale, Fairfax County, VA.
