Ernest Ewart Rice 1884 - 1917

Ernest Ewart Rice was born in January 1884 in Swansea, Glamorgan County to Thomas John Rice and Elizabeth Julia Isaac, and had siblings Thomas James Rice and Joseph George B Rice. He married Annie Emma Jane Roe, and had a child Ewart Andrew Rice. Ernest Rice died at age 33 years old on March 31, 1917, and was buried at Villers Station Cemetery Villers-au-bois in Wales.

Building began in 1848 but was stopped because of lack of funds and also due to the Civil War. It would be dedicated in 1885. At the time of its completion, it was the tallest structure in the world.
