His final chapter included successfully closing the Princeton store and overseeing the opening of a new establishment in Mercer Mall just before his well-deserved retirement.

    Peg actively engaged in various Masonic organizations, including Princeton Masonic Lodge #134, Princeton Chapter #44 (Royal Arch Masons), Bluefield Commandery #19 (Knights Templar), Beni Kedem Shrine Temple in Charleston, and Bluefield Shrine Club. Additionally, he played a key role in establishing the Princeton Rescue Squad, contributed to the board of the Princeton Salvation Army, and held a distinguished membership in the "Ten Cent Millionaires Club" until its final days. He married Cola Magaline Cornett (1921–2010) on October 31, 1942 in Radford, Virginia, USA. The couple had three children together.

    E.G. “Peg” Tolley, 95, of Princeton, died Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Roanoke. Born November 10, 1920, in Radford, VA, he was the son of the late Ernest Addison Tolley and Della Richards Tolley. Peg retired from Leggett Department Stores after 47 years of service. He worked for Leggett 3 years in Christiansburg, VA before moving to Princeton in 1956 to open a new Leggett Department Store where he served as manager for 44 years. His last action was closing the Princeton store and managing the opening of a new store in Mercer Mall just prior to retirement. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Princeton. He was a member of Princeton Masonic Lodge #134, Princeton Chapter #44, Royal Arch Masons, Bluefield Commandery #19, Knights Templar, Beni Kedem Shrine Temple in Charleston and Bluefield Shrine Club. Peg was among the founders of the Princeton Rescue Squad, served on the board of the Princeton Salvation Army and was one of the last members of the “Ten Cent Millionaires Club”. He served his country as a Medic in the U.S. Army during World War ll. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Magaline Cornett “Tootie” Tolley; two brothers; and one sister. He is survived by one son, Bud Tolley and wife Pat of Princeton; two daughters, Teresa Collis and husband Ken of Princeton, and Patricia West and husband Mike of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren, Travis Collis and wife Jenny, Ashlie Craik and husband Keeney, Megan Thompson and husband Chance, Kristen Spivey and husband John, and Addison West and fiancé Trent Oswalt; and six great-grandchildren. In honoring Peg’s wishes, private graveside services were held Monday, May 16, 2016, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Rev. Scott Sears officiating.

In 1920, in the year that Ernest Garland Tolley was born, Italian born factory worker Nicola Sacco and fish peddler Bartolomeo Vanzetti were picked up by police on May 5th in connection with the April 15th murder and robbery of a guard and a paymaster at the Slater and Morrill Shoe Company in South Braintree, Mass. Although in later years they were thought to be innocent, they were anarchists and were convicted of the crime and put to death.

Almost 5,000 landing and assault craft, 289 escort vessels, and 277 minesweepers were involved. Nearly 160,000 troops crossed the English Channel on D-Day - Allied casualties on the first day were at least 10,000. 4,414 were confirmed dead.
