Ernest Leonard "Len" Westmore 1903 - 1987

Ernest Leonard Westmore was born in 1903 in Prahran, Stonnington City County, VIC Australia to William Frederick Westmore and Marion Elizabeth "Minnie" Westmore ( Dannock, and had siblings Ronald Charles Westmore and Clarence Leslie Keith Westmore. He married Annie Gertrude (Martin) Westmore, and died at age 83 years old in September 1987. Ernest Westmore was buried at Ferntree Gully Cemetery in Ferntree Gully, Knox City County.

In 1903, in the year that Ernest Leonard "Len" Westmore was born, the silent film, The Great Train Robbery opened. Although it was filmed in Milltown, New Jersey, it was a Western. Twelve minutes long, the film used a lot of innovative techniques - some scenes were hand colored and composite editing, on-location shooting, and frequent camera movement were used. Its budget was $150 (about $4000 currently) and was the most popular film until 1915 when Birth of a Nation was released.

In 1937, he was 34 years old when on May 28th, the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge opened to cars. Taking 5 years to build, the 4,200-foot-long suspension bridge was an engineering marvel of its time - 11 men died during construction. The "international orange" color was chosen because it resisted rust and fading. To the present, it is the symbol of the City that is known throughout the world.
