Ernest Clyde Shupert was born to Clyde Allen Shupert (1892 - 1962) and Ellen Cecilia Hedman (1894 - 1971). His father was born in Indiana, as was his mother. He had siblings Raymond and Glen Shupert and June and Katherine Shupert. Ernest was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II.. He enlisted in December of 1941 and was discharged in October of 1945. Ernest Shupert married Josephine Elizabeth Dubrava (1916 - 2012) on September 8, 1959 in Homer, Alaska.

Ernest enlisted in the United States Army on December 4, 1941 and was discharged on October 30, 1945. He was a veteran of World War II.

When he married in 1959, Ernest said that he was a "self-employed farmer". Previously, at the age of 25, he stated that he was a trapper. Ernest had also been at the age of 36, employed in "fishing and trapping in a salmon cannery".

He married Josephine Elizabeth Dubrava (1916-2012) on September 8th 1959 in Homer Alaska. On his World War II draft card, Ernest was described as being 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He had blue eyes, brown hair, and a "ruddy" complexion. He also had a 4 inch scar on his left leg.
