Ernest Wernicke 1838 - 1881

Ernest Ludwig Christian Wernicke of Germany Australia was born in 1838 in Butzow, Mecklenburg Germany to Augustus Isaac Friedrich Wernicke and Johanna Auguste (Kohl). Ernest Wernicke had siblings Helmuth Heinrich Cristoffer Wernicke, Augustus Otto Heinrich Wernicke, and Caroline Marie Eliza Wernicke. He married Annie Grieve in 1863 in Victoria Australia, and they were married until Annie's death in 1876 in Australia. They had children August Ernest Diedrich Wernicke, Ernestina Helena Mary Wernicke, and Otto Bismark Wernecke. He also married Isabella (Grieve) Wernicke in 1878. Ernest Wernicke died at age 43 years old in 1881 in VIC Australia.

In 1838, in the year that Ernest Wernicke was born, on January 11th in New Jersey, Samuel Morse and two others first publicly demonstrated Morse's new invention - the telegraph. Patented by Morse in 1837, the electrical telegraph used a code developed by him and his assistant, Samuel Vail, and sent a message two miles. In 1844, Morse broadcast from Washington DC to Baltimore Maryland the message "What hath God wrought" and the telegraph took off.
