Erwin A. Schmidt age 98 of Norwood Young America passed away on Wednesday October 17, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waconia Funeral Service: Sunday October 21, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Zion Lutheran Church (14735 CR 153) Benton Twp. rural Cologne with Rev. Eric Zacharias as officiant; visitation from 12:30 P.M. until the time of service at church; interment Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Erwin was born on June 25, 1920 in Benton Twp. Carver County the son of Philipp and Carolyn (Schlemmer) Schmidt. He was baptized on June 28, 1920 at Zion Lutheran Church Benton Twp. by Rev. Herman AmEnd and confirmed on March 25, 1934 at Zion Lutheran Church Benton Twp. by Rev. Herman AmEnd. On May 31, 1941 Erwin was united in marriage to Martha Rolf at Zion Lutheran Church Benton Twp. by Rev. Herman AmEnd. Erwin loved living on the farm and taking on the daily chores. He kept busy by making different wood working projects, tapping trees and processing maple syrup, collecting old cars and taking care of his horses. Erwin worked at the Belle Plaine Sales Barn for 20 years besides doing his farm work. He and Martha took a trip to Germany that was a memorable experience. They enjoyed their time fishing on Star Lake. During their younger years, they would watch the boys play softball. Erwin was still running a combine at the age of 90. Erwin was preceded in death by his wife Martha “Matzie”; grandson Scott; his parents; brothers Marvin (Orpah) Schmidt, Wilbur (Esther) Poppitz, Earl Schmidt; sisters Mildred (Clarence) Marks, Eunice (Marvin) Rolf-Bruesehoff; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Bertha (Fred) Quass, Edwin (Hilma) Rolf, Erna (Ardell) Wolter, Mabel (Glennard) Lenz, Renata Loehrs. Erwin is survived by his loving family: sons Roger (Marilyn) Schmidt of Plato, Dallas (Karen) Schmidt of Chaska; grandchildren Rodney (Lorie) Schmidt, Kurt (Molly) Schmidt, Dina (Chris) Urban, Michael (Tina) Schmidt, Daniel Schmidt and special friend Nik, Kimberly (Colin) Dockry, Timothy (Kristi) Schmidt, Thomas Schmidt; great-grandchildren Corey, Caroline, Stephanie, Luke, Charles, William, Joseph, Henry, Greta, Stetson, Alex, Jesse, Kelsey and Cara; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Marville Schmidt of Cologne, Harold Bruesehoff of Norwood Young America, Erland Loehrs of Waconia; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
