Ethel Jane/Janet (Plews) Verschoyle was born circa 1869 in Darlington, Durham County England to Mary Ann (Macfarlane) Plews and Thomas Robert Maddison Plews, and had siblings Thomas Walter Plews, Jessie (Plews) Newby, Mary Anne Minnie (Plews) Drysdale, Eva Plews, Ian Plews, Amy Plews, Norval H. Plews, Kate Maud Plews, and John M. Plews. She married Beresford St. George Verschoyle, and had a child Richard Plews Verschoyle. Ethel Verschoyle died at age 72 years old in 1941 in Worthing, Sussex County.
