    Eugene Anthony Leahy was born to parents Agnes Johanna Holly Saner (1893-1980) and Arthur Francis Leahy on May 8, 1929 in Imogene, Iowa. He had 8 siblings: Veronica Mary (1916-2002), Margaret Johanna (1917-2002), Arthur Francis (1919-1983), William Michael (1922-1979), Vincent (1925-1951), Marie Theresa (1926-1977), James J. (1927-1986), and Jeremiah Leahy (1927-1986). They grew up living in Monroe, Fremont, Iowa, USA. On September 20, 1950 Eugene joined the United States military, and in 1958 he moved to Omaha, Nebraska, USA. He married Margaret Janice Skelton (1931-2009) in Missouri Valley, Iowa, USA on August 2, 1952. They had 7 children together including a daughter named Catherine Ann Leahy (1962-2003) and a son Daniel Patrick Leahy (1967-1994). Eugene served one term as the Mayor of Omaha from 1969 to 1973 and was known as one of the most popular mayors being a vital role in the re-development of Downtown Omaha. Eugene Anthony Leahy passed away on January 18, 2000 in Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska, USA.

    Mayor of Omaha from 1969 to 1973. Was one of, if not the most popular Mayor in the history of Omaha. Instrumental in the redevelopment of Omaha's downtown. The Central Park Mall, a major part of his river front development plan, was renamed the Gene Leahy Mall in his honor. While serving as Mayor he also hosted a Sunday morning TV show where he read the Sunday Funnies to children. Once wore a bunny costume to a press conference to help raise funds and awareness for a charity. Served only one term as Mayor.
