  • Introduction

    Motion Picture and Television Cinematographer. The son of acclaimed cinematographer Sol Polito, he moved with his family to California for the purpose of his father's work. He was educated at Loyola University and the University of Southern California (the latter from where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering) and upon graduation worked for Douglas Aircraft as an engineer. It would not be until the age of forty, when Polito launched his Hollywood career during the late-1950s, initially as a member of the cinematography crew for the TV program "The Loretta Young Show," he advanced to director of photography on several popular TV series of the 1960s and 1970s, among them "Lost in Space," "Mannix," "It Takes a Thief," "The Bold Ones: The Lawyers" and "Alias Smith and Jones." His feature film efforts include "The Plunderers" (1960), "Portrait of a Mobster" (1961), "Prime Cut" (1972), "Westworld" (1973), "Futureworld" (1976) and "Up in Smoke" (1978). He received an Emmy Award nomination for the TV-movie "My Sweet Charlie" (1970)
