Eugene Gambill's History: circa 1920

Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

Eugene was my father, I am John Bruce. His father was Horace. His father was apparently George Washington Gambill. A family story was that two brothers came from Kentucky by horseback, one stayed (my relation), the other got into trouble with the law, and left. Another story from a "Gamble" in Johnston City says his relation got into trouble, and stayed. Gene was a coal miner (until a cave-in nearly killed him), meatcutter, and ended up working at Electromotive in Lagrange ILL for 20 years. My sister Lola and I grew up in the SW suburbs of Chicago. Gene and Jackie (my mother) returned to Johnston City and took care of my grandmother, Nellie ~ 1969.
