    1923-2006 Mr. Eugene Jankowski, 82, of Michigan City, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at 10:02 p.m. at his home. He was born Aug. 27, 1923, in Michigan City to Adam and Stella (Szczepanek) Jankowski. Mr. Jankowski had retired after 41 years from the Michigan City Post Office as a postal clerk. He also worked at Arno Tape and Burnham Glove Factory. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, where he served as an usher; American Legion Skwiat Post 451, where he was boys state chairman for 25 years; St. Joseph Young Men’s Society, Moose Family Center 980, American Postal Workers Union, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and Lucky 13 Club. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II with the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame fan, enjoyed golfing and walking along the shore of Lake Michigan, and loved working in the yard. On June 28, 1947, in Michigan City, he married Helen Szymaszek, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Sandra (Dennis) Burke and Kathleen (Robert) Sass, both of Michigan City; two grandchildren, Ryan Burke and Elliott Sass; one great-grandson; two sisters, Lillian “Lee” Napierala and Esther Bodis, both of Michigan City; one brother, Joseph Cizewski of Michigan City; and special niece, Darlene Cizewski. Preceding him in death were one grandson, Dennis Burke; one sister, Genevieve Hertzberg; and three brothers, Walter, Edward and John Cizewski. The funeral will be Wednesday at noon at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Michigan City, with Rev. Walter Ciesla officiating. Friends may call at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., with the St. Joseph Young Men’s Society reciting the rosary at 7 p.m. and American Legion Skwiat Post 451 conducting a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.; and Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, with American Legion Skwiat Post 451 conducting full military services. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Renaissance Fund, 109 Ann St., Michigan City, IN 46360.
