Hansberry, Evelyn “Nana” of Surfside Beach, SC, formerly of the Atlantic City area, passed away peacefully at home on August 2, 2014, surrounded by her loved ones. Born to John and Elizabeth (nee Reed) Hibbert on December 16, 1919, at what is now Max’s Barber Shop in Northfield, NJ. Nana was a lifelong resident until 2010 before relocating with her daughter, Kathy, to South Carolina. Nana worked at several fine establishments in the Atlantic City area throughout its hay day and waited on celebrities including Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, while putting her children through catholic school on just an eighth grade education. But her most memorable workplace was at Fralinger’s Salt Water Taffy Factory, where she met her husband, Jack Hansberry. They married on September 19, 1942 and worked together to provide for their family and give them the things they never had. Nana was so proud of the legacy that lives on through their four children: Jack, Mike, Pat (Suzanne) and Kathy Fahy (Don). With greater pride, she leaves her 12 grandchildren: Kellie Smith (Eric), Patrick Hansberry, Nicole Fava (Joe), Michael (Brandi), Danielle, Don and Rob (Jessica) Fahy, Ryan Hansberry, Tara Becker (Robert), Kim Heathcote (Randy), John and Sean Hansberry. And finally, Nana’s love will continue on through her 18 great-grandchildren: McKenna, Jordan and Aiden Smith, Shaylin, Alyssa and Brandon Hansberry, Randy, Brady and Cooper Heathcote, Gabrielle and Patrick Hansberry, Joey and Lilly Fava, and Laura, Ryan, Kari, Abby and Olivia Fahy. Nana wanted to pass on her special love for her dear friends, Roberta, Sherry and Jan as well as her nephew Tom Hayes, and countless and dearly loved other family members. In addition to her husband and parents, Nana is predeceased by her brothers Tom and Robert Hibbert and daughters in law, Ginny and Carol Hansberry. Services will be private at Nana’s request. Nana was a simple woman and didn’t need or want material things, so flowers aren’t necessary. If donations are made, please make them to a charity of your choice to help one in need.
