Born in British Columbia, Canada, of Greek immigrant parents, Evinia was raised in British Columbia. She was married in Texas and later lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota and again in Texas.

Taking 5 years to build, the 4,200-foot-long suspension bridge was an engineering marvel of its time - 11 men died during construction.
