I knew Dick Ross in Rome, 1945. I was 6 y.o. and he was an american soldier to whom a dear friend of us, Giuseppe Ferracuti, was giving sometimes hospitality. Ross became friend of my father and mother. When on september 1945 my family moved away from Rome to settle in Venice, Ross was often host in our new home all the times he came to Venice to visit us. He went back to USA in 1946, but we were writing reciprocally letters to update us about the developments of our lives for about forty years. In 1983 Dick and Ruth (I hope I remember properly her name) came to Venice to see and embrace us and for a few days we stay along with them in our beautiful Venice. Two years later I received a letter by Ross announcing that a recent check-up had discovered a cancer in his kidney. Ross was at peace: he wrote me :"I've been living in good health till now, therefore I've nothing to deplore". I received in another letter by Ross a picture of him smiling in a hospital bed encircled by his sons and later, after some time, a letter from Ruth announcing us that Ross had passed away. I've lost any contact with Ruth and family and I would like have some news about them .
