Dorothy was the daughter of Isaac Vestal and Fairley Wallace Vestal. Her siblings were: Alberta Glenna (E. L. Stewart and Walter D. Holcomb), Mary Josephine (Daniel A. Morelli), and Mildred Marie (Hillus W. Conrad).

She was the second wife of Emory Abram Marion. She and Emory had three daughters.
