  • Introduction

    Forian was an immigrant to the US from the Spis Region of the Kingdom of Hungary (present day Carpathian German village of Chmeľnica, Slovakia.) The family name in Slovak is spelled Baran and was Anglicized to Barron in the US. Some other family members also used the spelling Barren. First marriage at age 22 to Veronica Peky in 1879 produced a son Stephan Baran in 1881. Sadly Veronica died in 1884 and Stephan died as a teenager in Slovakia at age 18 in 1900. Florian remarried in 1885 to Theresia Shisser (Szisur in Hungarian spelling). Florian and Theresia departed the port of Hamburg, Germany for the US In 1886 and arrived in the port of New York on 25-JUN-1886. They settled in Ithaca, New York and had two children, Mary Catherine and Stephan Edward. Florian worked mainly as a laborer and died at his home in Ithaca in 1933. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Ithaca, New York with his wife.

    [Florian Barron], 75, died Wednesday afternoon at his home, 707 Cliff Street[, Ithaca, New York.] Funeral services will be held at 8:30 o'clock Saturday morning at the home, and at 9 o'clock at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be in Cavalry Cemetery. He is survived by his widow, [Teresa]; a daughter, Mrs. Mary [Yenei]; a son, Stephen [Barron], and a brother, Gregory, all of Ithaca.
