Fran was born into challenging times and was able to overcome these challenges to build for herself and her family a meaningful and rewarding life. As a young girl after her father had deserted the family, Fran rose to the occasion to offer daily and significant assistance in raising her two younger siblings as well as working to assist the family financially all while attending school and excelling academically. In high school, Fran proved to be a gifted musician and was honored to have been chosen to play first viola position in the school orchestra. She was also honored to be chosen to write the opening introductory poem for her high school's yearbook. After high school, she went to work at a large grocery store in order to help support the family. Here, she met the love of her life, Morris Turnansky, whom she married and with whom she had two children, Joan and Stuart. Those were good years for Fran as she and her husband worked hard and their grocery store became very prosperous. They took great joy in raising their children, vacationed in Florida each winter, and looked forward to a happy life together. Morris died in 1951, leaving Fran alone with two young children aged 3 and eight. Life became a struggle for the now single mother, Fran, at a time when there were very few single mothers in the community at that time. But Fran again rose to the occasion taking over the running of the store, working very hard, and continuing to raise her children with ongoing love and care. She never gave up, and watched her children grow up to be happy and successful, her daughter a successful homemaker and later successful businesswoman with two children, Mark and Anne, and her son a successful medical doctor with two children Jessica and Morrison. In her final years, Fran suffered a major stroke, preventing her from walking and talking very well. But again she never gave up and continued to look forward and enjoy her daily visits from her children and grandchildren in the final years of her life. In the end, she returned to be buried next to her beloved Morris, to share for eternity the joy they had known during their years together
