Frannie was a very good friend from 1980, when I met her in Jerusalem Israel with her husband Bernie (Bernard J. Wald), and sons David & Kevin. She had a very good sense of humour, and could be sharp-tongued, but had a great heart and was very welcoming and always happy to help her friends. I would visit them and go out to eat when in NYC (I remember eating ONCE in their home in NYC, in 26 years of friendship, as well as spaghetti & meatballs lunches every summer on the Cape, when we would all go to auctions of snuff bottles at Eldred's in East Dennis, MA). I must have been their guest for dinner literally hundreds of times! And to il Mulino for Italian food, or Aqua Grill for fish, or #1 Son Noodle Shop for all Peking Duck dinners. Very occasionally, we'd go to Tennessee Mountain ribs for BBQ. When they felt like sushi, I'd invite them to my then go-to hotel, the Waldorf, and we'd go to Inogiku, where they would enjoy the fresh sushi, and I would have a few orders of nagima yaki (thinly sliced filet with a teriyaki sauce, wrapped around chives, and grilled) and a chicken katsu dinner. I miss Frannie a lot.
