Francis A Carlson's History: circa 1856 - circa 1915

Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

Frans's younger brother Alfred (Karlsson) Johnson (1862-1938) married Maria (Amelia-Emelia) Nelson (1863-1953) and settled outside of Chicago, Illinois in Zion, Lake County... he was also a tailor. They were found to have raised one foster daughter together... The oldest brother Anders Johan (Karlsson) Soderberg (1848-1932) moved to Haus, Hordaland, Norway in February 1878 - that year he got married to Carrie (Kari Monsdatter) Monson (1858-1945, mother of 12) and in April 1880 they left for America with their twin daughters - Karlotta Mathella (1878-1880, died at sea in passage) and Klara Sophia (1878-1956). "John's" parents were there already... Charle (Karl Johansson) Johnson (1823-1913) and Marta-Martha Andersdatter (1823-1906), settled in Cokato, Wright, Minnesota. Also there & in the Minneapolis area as well, were 2 more of Francis's siblings; Ms. Tilda/Thilda Maria (Karlsdotter) Johnson (1859-1935) Mrs. Anna Kristina (Karlsdotter) Miller (1851-1930, mother of 10) - wife of Andrew Miller (1846-1900, born in Vederslöv, Kronoberg, Sweden, a TWIN of his brother Johannes Möller). Charle & Martha were separated AT LEAST 13 years before living together again in America. They had lost and buried 2 other children in Sweden... Pehr August was born on April 1 1850 and died 2 months later. THEIR daughter Clara Sofia was born July 28, 1854 and lived until February 20, 1862... this couple were already having marital problems before Clara's birth and clergy had written warnings in church books, for mutual discord. About 11 years later, after the youngest 3 children's births, Charle left his family behind in Sweden and headed off for America. Charle was about 26 months old when his father died. His mother Kajsa-Caisa Nilsdotter (1792-1861) lost 2 baby boys before Charle arrived and her only daughter Maria (1825-1827) passed the year after her husband's death - Johannes Jeansson lived 1786-1826. She then married her second husband Anders about 3 years after becoming a widow. They had 3 sons together, the youngest boy August (1837) lived only a few months . In 1865, Charle emigrated with his half-brother Johan Fredrick (Andersson) Österberg (1832-1923) who lived his American life near Galesburg, Knox, Illinois. Their other brother Gustaf Andersson (1829-1916) remained in Sweden and I got to meet some of his descendants when I visited Sweden in the summer of 2012... What I have found seems to be that Francis married Alma Nord (1859-1938) and they had 3 children together; Julia Augusta Constance (1881-1971), Francis Leopold (1883-1948) and Rudolph (1889-1938). Please, I look forward to meeting more family members who can share additional details, stories or photos on Francis's family... it took a long time to find him and there was a great distance between them and his Minnesota relatives...
