Francis father: John Manion; mother: Elvina O'Connor both parents were longtime residents of New Orleans

attended Jesuit HS; began Loyola and wanted to become a lawyer; then schooling interrupted by WW2.

was very active in Catholic Church as he was very influenced by his Jesuit HS experience. A dear friend was Fr. "Hootie" McGowan (sp?); an in-law, Fr. Lange was also a Jesuit.

served as a bomber pilot (? B24) in WW2 and flew in Pacific Theater. Crash-landed on a beach - out of fuel - on return from a mission. (see site: pacificwrecks for pics)

initially after the war, went into the boiler (home heating) business as a boiler salesman. Then trained in insurance and worked as an independent agent for his adult life. Hurricane season was always a worry as his clients would experience massive losses. And then his risk rating was affected and the insurers would drop him, or go out of business. Cared deeply about his clients.

active member of Southern Yacht Club where he served as race committee chair for several years. active golfer and member of New Orleans Country Club.
