Francis Henry Wood of Yarram, Wellington Shire County, VIC Australia was born in 1858 in Yarram to Mary Sybella Hearder Rendell and Francis Wood. He had siblings Sarah Sybella (Wood) Widdon, John William Wood, George Gilbert Wood, Annie Elizabeth Wood, Ethel Eileen Wood, Edith Evelyn Hearden Wood, James Shaw Wood, and Samuel Haldenby Wood. He married Ellen Grace (Gay) Wood, and had children Bertha Maria (Wood) Dossett, Francis Alfred Wood, Matthew Henry Wood, Esther Evelyn Kuffer, and Percival James Wood. Francis Wood died at age 89 years old on February 14, 1948 in Marysborough.

In 1858, in the year that Francis Henry Wood was born, on January 25th, the "Wedding March" - composed by Felix Mendelssohn - became a popular wedding recessional after being played at the marriage of Queen Victoria's daughter Victoria - eldest child of Victoria and Albert and Princess Royal. Princess Victoria was married to Prince Friedrich of Prussia in St James's Palace, London and as with all things royal in Victorian England, everyone wanted it played at their wedding.

In 1892, at the age of 34 years old, Francis was alive when on October 12th, the "Pledge of Allegiance" was first recited in unison by students in U.S. public schools. Composed the previous August by Francis Bellamy, it was to be recited in 15 seconds and originally read: "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." "Under God" was added in the 1950's.
