Francis John Okuly of Holgate, Henry County, Ohio United States was born on November 9, 1859. He was married to Margaret (Royal) Okuly, and they were together until Margaret's death on May 28, 1941. He had children Albert Okuly, Catherine (Helen) (Okuly) Glanz, Frances (Okuly) Leis, Emma (Okuly) Keeterlee, William L Okuly, Lester S Okuly, Agnes J (Okuly) Gerschutz, John S Okuly, and Elenore Okuly. Francis Okuly died at age 91 years old on October 10, 1951 in Holgate.

In 1859, in the year that Francis John Okuly was born, on October 16th, abolitionist John Brown led a raid on Harpers Ferry Armory in Harper's Ferry, Virginia, in an attempt to start a slave rebellion. He wanted to "liberate" the guns in the armory and arm slaves. Brown was captured and hanged on December 2nd.
