He had children Albert Okuly, Catherine (Helen) (Okuly) Glanz, Frances (Okuly) Leis, Emma (Okuly) Keeterlee, William L Okuly, Lester S Okuly, Agnes J (Okuly) Gerschutz, John S Okuly, and Elenore Okuly. Francis Okuly died at age 91 years old on October 10, 1951 in Holgate.

In 1859, in the year that Francis John Okuly was born, on October 16th, abolitionist John Brown led a raid on Harpers Ferry Armory in Harper's Ferry, Virginia, in an attempt to start a slave rebellion. He wanted to "liberate" the guns in the armory and arm slaves. Brown was captured and hanged on December 2nd.
