    Francis P. Welsh Sr. aged 77 died on October 26,2017. Beloved husband for 53 years to Maureen T. (nee Bradley). Loving father of Francis Jr,Thomas (Barb),Patrick (Helen),Michael (Sharon) Kathleen (Chris Sanford) and Maureen Crismond (Scott.),cherished grandfather of 16. Mr. Welsh retired after 52 years of public service including 30 years with the Philadelphia Police Department. Family,friends and FOP are invited to Francis's Life Celebration Monday from 9-11 A.M. at St. Dominic Cemtery. In lieu of flowers,donations can be made in loving memory of Francis P. Welsh Sr. to either The Northeast Catholic Alumni Scholarship Fund,PO Box 7005 Philadelphia,PA 19149,or online to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia at give.chop.education. In 1939, in the year that Francis Patrick Welsh Sr. was born, in May, Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated film, reached a total international gross of $6.5 million which made it (to then) the most successful sound film of all time. First released in December 1937, it was originally dubbed "Disney's Folly" but the premiere received a standing ovation from the audience. At the 11th Academy Awards in February 1939, Walt Disney won an Academy Honorary Award - a full-size Oscar statuette and seven miniature ones - for Snow White.

In 1943, he was merely 4 years old when on September 3rd, the Armistice of Cassibile was signed in Sicily. Under the terms of the Armistice, Italy surrendered to the Allied Powers. After the Armistice was made public on September 8th, Germany attacked and occupied Italy. It took 20 months of fighting for the Allies to reach the northern borders of Italy.
