He enlisted on November 27, 1945 in Detroit Michigan and served in the US Army until May 26, 1947. The year after he was discharged, he married Mary Antoinette Gaglio on June 19, 1948 in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, USA. Other sources state their wedding date as September 14, 1957, although this might be when they honeymooned to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.
