I sure do miss you Frank! My best friend, my "big brother", a piece of my broken heart!

My best friend! My name is Krystal Gunter Compton and I would like to say that Frank was by far the best guy I have ever know! I met Frank many years ago when he was living here in North Carolina. He worked for the same company as my parents as a maintenance technician in which I spent many days off from school and summers. Frank began renting a home from my parents Greg and Linda which was on the same property that I lived and I became closer and closer to Frank daily. Frank became my best friend, I know that sounds crazy, that a teenage girl and a man in his mid 20's could become best friends right?!? Well we were! He is the person that single handedly would not allow me to quit high school, even though he moved back to Altoona before he could watch me walk across the stage. I found out mid way through my senior year that Frank was in desperate need of a kidney transplant due to a genetic illness....lord knows I wanted and was more than willing to give him one of mine but he wouldn't allow it even if I was a match! I remember we would write letters back and fourth and how excited we both were to find a new one in the mail box, we send Christmas cards, birthday cards, and sometimes general greetings. We would always talk on the phone every Friday no matter what! The last I spoke to him he told me that he was going into surgery and that he would call me as soon as he got into a recovery room....I waited, and waited, patiently by the phone. But no call. His mother Zelda wound up calling my mother and I instantly knew my best friend was gone! But I didn't want to believe it! We drove almost 9 and 1/2 hours that night from North Carolina all the way to Altoona to attend his funeral. That's when it all hit me, they called last call before they closed his casket, I LOST IT! My best friend was really gone! I would never be able to talk to him again and the last goodbye we uttered was the one where he told me that we would talk again very soon. I now hold him in my heart, where he will forever have a place until we meet again someday! They say things get better over time, I was 18 when he passed and I am 30 now....not a year goes by that I don't cry my eyes out the week that he passed, not a day goes by that I don't think of him, not a second passes that he doesn't cross my mind! I love you Frank William Gondek, always have and always will! You were my best friend, my big brother, my shoulder to lean on and my back bone at times! I will never forget you!
Love always, Krystal aka "S*** Head" (my nickname from him)
