He married Dorothy A. (Philopulous) French on September 3, 1938, and had children Deanna (French) Tuek, Karen (French) Fritz, and Jon French. Franklin French died at age 62 years old on February 10, 1983 in Saginaw, Saginaw County.

In 1920, in the year that Franklin Arthur French was born, speakeasies replaced saloons as the center of social activity. After the 18th Amendment was ratified and selling alcohol became illegal, saloons closed and speakeasies took their place. Speakeasies, also called a blind pig or blind tiger, were "so called because of the practice of speaking quietly about such a place in public, or when inside it, so as not to alert the police or neighbors". There were a lot of them and they were very popular. And where saloons often prohibited women, they were encouraged at speakeasies because of the added profits.

In 1949, at the age of 29 years old, Franklin was alive when on January 25th, the first Emmy Awards (for television) were handed out in Los Angeles. Shirley Dinsdale won for the Most Outstanding Television Personality and Pantomime Quiz Time earned an Emmy for the Most Popular Television Program.
