  • Obituary

FRANKLIN DAVID CORBET 1906 - 1995 Franklin David Corbett, 88, died peacefully Dec. 5, of lung disease. An exceptionally vigorous and healthy man throughout his life, he remained active until his last few weeks. He died in the house he built in the Barron Park neighborhood of Palo Alto, where he had lived since 1949. A native of Pueblo, Colorado, he grew up on a ranch near Durango, where his father was a builder. He moved with his family to the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1940s, where he pursued a long career of home building and home-remodeling. Trained during an earlier era of careful craftsmanship, he was noted for his attention to detail in everything he built. Since seeing his first barnstorming airplane as a youth in Colorado, he had a life-long love for private flying. He particularly enjoyed flying in Alaska. In the early 1970s he built one of the first residences near the airport of Pine Mountain Lake, a 2nd home community in the Sierra foothiills near the Yosemite, as a retirement home. With this as a base, he continued flying into his mid seventies. After selling his last airplane, he purchased the first of several RV's and, together with his wife, continued his love of traveling for almost 15 more years. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Micky, a native of Kansas; and three sons, Franklin Jr of Berkeley, James Corbett of Cupertino, and A. Christopher Corbett, presently working in the Arabian Gulf. He is also survived by a sister, Helen Wood, of Las Cruces, NM; by two brothers, Herbert Corbett, of Livermore and Ed Corbett, of Dallas, TX; by a cousin, Burton Corbett, of Miami, AZ, and by several nieces and nephews. No services are planned. His remains will be interred in a family plot in Pueblo, Colo, beside three generations of the Corbett family. Contributions can be sent to the MidPeninsula Hospice Foundation, 65 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, CA.
