Fred once related that his family name had been Mc Collister at one time but somewhere along the way the Mc was dropped, leaving it Collister.

Fred was a conscientious, hard working, loyal friend. He was expert in everything he did. He would sometime reminisce about flying, showing photo of a small plane he owned when he was younger
