In 1917, in the year that Fred A Halling was born, Russian government offices were seized and the Romanov's Winter Palace was stormed in the Russian February and October Revolutions. The February revolution resulted in the abdication of Tsar Nicholas and a coalition of the Parliament and workers parties taking control of the government. The October revolution resulted in Lenin and the Bolsheviks taking complete control.

In 1947, Fred was 30 years old when on April 15th, Jackie Robinson joined the Brooklyn Dodgers, playing first base. He was the first black man to play in the Major Leagues. Since the 1880's, professional baseball had been segregated and blacks played in the "Negro leagues". He went on to play for 10 years.

1920's Fashion Is A Lot More Modern Than You Might Expect
1920's fashion began modestly and quickly evolved to what we would consider, even today, as a bit sexy or scandalous. First came the feathers, shiny beads, cloches, showing of skin, lots of fur, no corset, flappers... and then celebrities began pushing fashion limits even further. Discover the roaring 20's and it's fabulous fashion! You can almost tell what year each photo was taken based on how conservative the dress.
