He married Mary Ann Elizabeth (Stacey) Motteram in 1877, and had children Rupert Leslie Motteram, Clara Bentmore Motteram, George Hector Motteram, and Arthur Ernest Motteram. Frederick Motteram died at age 89 years old on May 15, 1940 in Caulfield, City of Glen Eira County, VIC Australia, and was buried at Burwood Cemetery Gilmour St, in Burwood, Whitehorse City County.
