Frederick Douglas Dupree was born on February 17, 1922 in Memphis, Tennessee to parents General L Dupree and Lula Reed. He had a younger brother Jim Dupree. At the age of 20, Frederick registered for the draft on June 30, 1942, in Memphis, Shelby, Tennessee. He was employed at the American Finishing Co. on Bodley Ave. in Memphis. Frederick enlisted in the military on October 15, 1942, at Camp Forrest, Tennessee. He held the rank of Private in the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers, USA, within the Selectees (enlisted men) component. He served in the Quartermaster Corps and was admitted to military service in June 1945 and discharged in the same month from an Aid Station. The reason for his discharge was due to a non-battle injury. He sustained burns on his forearm caused by a flaming liquid (gasoline explosion or similar incident) while on a work detail. Overall, Frederick served for approximately 2-3 years in the military before being discharged.
