Frederick Hewitt was born in 1884 to Frederick Hewitt and Mary (Scott) Hewitt, and had siblings John Hewitt, Thomas Hewitt, Ida (Hewitt) Coutts, Nellie (Hewitt) McAuley, and Emma (Hewitt) Powell. He was in a relationship with Ida Landers (Rodda) Hewitt, and had children Winston Frederick Hewitt, Vera Olive (Hewitt) Graham, and Stanley George Hewitt. Frederick Hewitt died at age 66 years old on May 30, 1951 in Port Melbourne, VIC Australia, and was buried at Fawkner Memorial Park 1187 Sydney Rd, in Hadfield, City of Moreland County.

In 1884, in the year that Frederick Hewitt was born, on August 5th, the cornerstone for the base of the Statue of Liberty - a gift from the people of France - was laid. 120,000 people - most donations were $1 - donated to the completion of the base. An 1883 poem by Emma Lazarus was also written to raise funds. That poem was included in the base of the statue and is well known today. In 1893, Frederick was just 9 years old when a songbook, called Song Stories for the Kindergarten, was published by sisters Patty and Mildred Hill. One of the songs included in the book was "Good Morning to All" - later the lyrics were changed and it became "Happy Birthday to You".
