Frederick James McAsey 1930 - 2006

Frederick James McAsey of Maryborough Vic, VIC Australia was born on August 25, 1930 to Muriel Rachel Rothville White McAsey and John Thomas McAsey. He had a sister Katherine Mcasey. He married Margaret Joan (Dean) on February 18 at Scotts Church Station St, in Yea, Murrindindi Shire County, Victoria and they later divorced. He had children Michael Frederick Mcasey, Neale Raymond McAsey, Warren Haydn McAsey, and Kristin Marjorie McAsey. Frederick McAsey died at age 76 years old in 2006.

Fred worked for the forestry commission before joining the Dept of Lands where he worked for around 37 years. He also worked part time at a local service station for around 25 yrs He also worked for local farmers etc in weed control and yard maintenance

In 1930, in the year that Frederick James McAsey was born, as head of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America, William Hays established a code of decency that outlined what was acceptable in films. The public - and government - had felt that films in the '20's had become increasingly risque and that the behavior of its stars was becoming scandalous. Laws were being passed. In response, the heads of the movie studios adopted a voluntary "code", hoping to head off legislation. The first part of the code prohibited "lowering the moral standards of those who see it", called for depictions of the "correct standards of life", and forbade a picture from showing any sort of ridicule towards a law or "creating sympathy for its violation". The second part dealt with particular behavior in film such as homosexuality, the use of specific curse words, and miscegenation.

In 1949, Frederick was 19 years old when comedian Milton Berle hosted the first telethon show. It raised $1,100,000 for cancer research and lasted 16 hours. The next day, newspapers, in writing about the event, first used the word "telethon."
