Frederick Johan Kristian Baggesen of Cauld Australia was born in 1855 in Bergen, Vestland Norway to Johannes Jakob Baggesen. He had a sister Johanne Frederikke Bagessen. He was in a relationship with Johanna Hansine (Hansen) Baggesen, and had children Alida Baggesen, John Jorgen Baggesen, Thomas Harry Baggesen, and Eugen Reihl Baggesen. Frederick Baggesen died at age 54 years old on April 3, 1910 in Caulfield, Victoria Australia, and was buried at Brighton General Cemetery in Caulfield South, City of Glen Eira County, VIC.

In 1855, in the year that Frederick Johan Christian Baggesen was born, on March 3rd, Congress appropriated $30,000 to create the U.S. Camel Corps. The idea was to use camels as pack animals in the Southwest and 34 camels were bought. But the Army wasn't enthusiastic about the idea and after the Civil War the Camel Corps was entirely abandoned.
