Frederick Robert Alofsin's father was John Benjamin Alofsin and his mother was May Aaron. When Fred was around 1 year old, he was living in Norwich, Connecticut on Sachern Street, with his parents, who were both born in Russia. Also in the house were siblings Samuel and Sylvia (his half-sister). Dad and Mom weren't working but brother Samuel, who was 15, was an "errand boy" at a meat market. By the time that he was 21 years old, Fred was living in Newport, Rhode Island with his father and attending Temple University Dental School. He was 5 foot 10.5 inches tall, weighed 170 pounds, had blue eyes and brown hair, and had a "light" complexion. Fred was a veteran of World War II, having enlisted on August 5, 1942 and being discharged on May 10, 1946. Frederick married Marie Louise Horgan (1927 - 2015) on June 13, 1950 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. When they married, "Fred" was an orthodontist.
