He was married to Edda M (Sigurdardottir) Fortier on August 29, 1958 in Reykjavík Iceland, and they were together until Edda's death on November 4, 2007. He had children Steven R Fortier, Edda M Fortier, Anna M (Fortier) Brown, Robert A Fortier, Theresa L (Fortier) Fernandez, and Kristin R (Fortier) Gomez. Frederick Fortier died at age 80 years old on December 21, 2016 in Tampa, Hillsborough County, FL, and was buried at Bay Pines National Cemetary 10000 Bay Pines Boulevard N, in St. Petersburg.
