  • Introduction

Freddie was born in New York, and moved to Hollywood, Florida in 1968. He married Katherine Hemeke in 1970 and they had a very beautiful girl. They divorced in about 1972, and he never married again. Freddie lived a very unusual lifestyle as a hermit from that time onward. in 1980 he moved to Key West and worked for many years at the Rooftop Restaurant. He was always hunting for "treasure" along the coastal area, but actually found some in the local thrift shops! He was also a wonderful artist who did miniature paintings that had a very dark quality to them, but they also possessed an unusually vibrant and energetic feel to them, similar to the effect on the eyes of the viewer as the later works of Vincent an Gogh's assylum paintings. Freddie, unfortunately, never believed they were any good and he would almost always destroy his paintings immediately afterward - save for the very few he gave away as gifts to friends and family. He was also a habitual smoker and he developed a chronic respiratory disorder that eventually took his life. Family members were by his side when ha=e passed away, peacefully. As odd and unusual as Frederick was to all who met him, he was a very lovable human being. He is missed by many.
