Gary Floyd Piearcy's History: 1957 - 2016

Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

Gary was so funny and full of life. One summer he cut grass and at the end of summer, he had saved every penny he made and brought everyone in our family a gift. He brought mom a shorts outfit and a pair of white boots up to her knees, it was her favorite outfit. It made Gary so happy!! He was a caring, giving, and happy person! He was married several times but had one daughter, Misty Dawn Piearcy. He used to sneak our dad's car out at night and he was only 12 years old. I went with him once and we almost hit a ditch and it scared me to death and I never went again. All of us kids were sneaky and doing things we weren't supposed to do.

  • Ethnicity & Family History

Gary was caucasian. Gary's mother Betty Joyce Dunlap was born in Port Saint Joe, Florida, and grew up there until she married Floyd John Piearcy. They moved to Oklahoma, Floyd John Piearcy was born in Clarita, Coal, Oklahoma, and grew up there. Floyd's parents were born and raised in Oklahoma. They were farmers and Grandpa John worked on the railroad with his best friend. I can't remember his best friend's name but he was black and lived in the hills and Grandpa John would visit his friend and they would end up drinking and causing all kinds of trouble. He named his younger daughter Hattie after one of the black ladies he liked. The Piearcy's immigrated to the United States from England. They were Percy's, three sons didn't want to be associated with their father so they changed their last names to De Percy, and there are several other ways the surname was written but mostly Pearcy. John Pearcy was an indentured servant for several years and he was the main person the Piearcy's came from. I'm not sure about Betty's family. I know her mother, Gracie Francis Bishop was born and raised in Florida, and so were her parents and grandparents. They also lived in parts of Alabama. William Jackson Dunlap was Betty's father and he was born in Alabama. His parents were born and raised in Henry County, Alabama. They were farmers. William's dad died in the year 1919 in Holmes, Florida, and William's mom died in the year 1925, in Holmes, Florida. William's grandparents, William L Bush, and Dillie Smith came from Henry County, Alabama in a horse and buggy to get their three grandchildren in Holmes, Florida. Two of their grandchildren stayed in Holmes, Florida. Gracie's parents were born and raised in Florida. Gracie's mother was 6 feet tall and Gracie's father was 3 1/2 feet tall. Gracie's father, John Wesley Bishop worked at a lumber store and sold boiled peanuts in town and traded with the Indians. He took his wife once and she was red-headed and the Indians were staring at her and touching her hair and scared her to death and she never went back again.
