Gaspare Cusimano was born to Casimiro Cusimano (1863 - 1941) and Fara Finazzo (1867 - 1921). Both parents were born in Sicily. He had siblings Giuseppe, Giovanna, Filippo, Maria A., Fara, and Giuseppina Cusimano. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 17 with his family and his father petitioned for naturalization for the whole family in 1906, stating that the family had been in the United States since 1902.. A veteran of World War I, Gaspare enlisted in the United States Army on September 28, 1917 and was discharged on September 4, 1919. Gaspare Cusimano married Anne Latino (1896 - 1989) on October 1, 1919 in New Orleans, Louisiana. They had three children: Fara, Gloria Josephine, and Annabelle Cusimano.
