  • Introduction

    Genserico Granata was revered by his children, grandchildren, friends and associates. Born in Fabriano, Italy, Genserico studied journalism in Rome and immigrated to the United States to take the helm of an Italian language newspaper in New York City. He married American-born Adele Bacci and raised a large family in Manhattan and on Staten Island. Proud of his heritage, Genserico was active in the Italian-American community in the city, where he was a banker with Bank of Italy, an editor with Italian newspapers and other publications, a businessman and owner of the Granata export/import trading company, a wine distributor, and the president of New York City’s Italian Chamber of Commerce, 1917-1919. He became a naturalized citizen in 1923, and his children grew to become people who contributed to U.S. society in varied ways - bankers, brokers, businessmen, social workers, and U.S. Foreign Service consulates. After being hospitalized, Genserico Granata passed away Feb. 26, 1942. He is interred on Staten Island in the Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
