    The Age, Melbourne. 28th January 1937. MR. GEORGE A. CARTWRIGHT. Mr. George A. Cartwright, manager of the Colonial Ammunition Co., the first manufacturers of military ammunition in Australia, has died at the age of 57 years. When the Commonwealth Government leased the works and subsequently purchased them, the late Mr. Cartwright's services were retained until 1926, when he retired to enter private practice. He had erected at Footscray the first rolling mill set up in Australia for the manufacture of metal for small arms, and subsequently pioneered the manufacture in Australia of non-ferrous sheet metal for commercial purposes. During the war period the company purchased thousands of pounds of War Loan Bonds, and in addition to granting the employees a substantial discount
