George Clement Hotton 1871 - 1933

George Clement Hotton of Toorak, City of Stonnington County, VIC Australia was born in 1871 in Collingwood, City of Yarra County to Peter Hotton and Letitia May Simpson Hotton. He had siblings Ann Louisa (Hotton) Touzeau, Letitia Mary (Hotton) Kendall, Frederick Simpson Hotton, Arthur John Hotton, William Hotton, Peter Hotton, and Horace Horatio Hotton. He married Emily Elvina Evans in 1896, and had children Clement Ludwig John Hotton and Ernest Arthur Hotton. George Hotton died at age 61 years old on June 21, 1933 in Toorak, City of Stonnington County.

In 1871, in the year that George Clement Hotton was born, on March 29th, Royal Albert Hall in London was officially opened by Queen Victoria. Construction had begun in 1867 and the hall was named after Queen Victoria's husband, who had died in 1861 - 10 years before.

In 1902, by the time he was 31 years old, the world famous Italian tenor, Enrico Caruso, made the first gramophone recording by a popular singer. Accompanied by only a piano, his voice recordings became a big seller and did much to popularize the new-fangled gramophone. He had to sing into a metal "horn" that relayed his voice to a metal disc. And the songs had to be under 4 and a half minutes!
