He then served as best man again for the husband of his niece, Irene Desrosiers on Nov 27, 1965 in Biddeford Maine when she married Ernest Jennison Jr. On Nov 6, 1983 he was arrested for selling 3 beers to Roger Treadway, who was also arrested for buying, on a Sunday in Norwalk CT. That same day, his store was robbed by a man with a gun but luckily neither he nor the female employee was hurt.

In 1935, in the year that George D Halacy was born, on September 8th, Louisiana Senator Huey Long was shot by Dr. Carl Weiss. Weiss was shot and killed immediately by Long's bodyguards - Long died two days later from his injuries. Long had received many death threats previously, as well as threats against his family. He was a powerful and controversial figure in Louisiana politics (and probably gained power through multiple criminal acts). His opponents became frustrated with their attempts to oust him and Dr. Weiss was the son-in-law of one of those opponents. His funeral was attended by 200,000 mourners.

In 1947, George was merely 12 years old when on April 15th, Jackie Robinson joined the Brooklyn Dodgers, playing first base. He was the first black man to play in the Major Leagues. Since the 1880's, professional baseball had been segregated and blacks played in the "Negro leagues". He went on to play for 10 years.
