George Frederick Moulsdale 1888 - 1970

George Frederick Moulsdale of Warrnambool, VIC Australia was born on January 8, 1888 in Youanmite, Moira Shire County to Emily Ann (Williams) Moulsdale and William McDonald Moulsdale. He had siblings Margaret Moulsdale, Ethel Maude Moulsdale, Richard Charles Moulsdale, Elsie Gladys Emily Moulsdale, Ruby Eliza Myrtle Moulsdale, William Albert Moulsdale, and Ernest Edgar Moulsdale. He married Rachel Margaret Johnston Mewha in 1910, and had children Gordon Ernest Moulsdale, William Frederick Charles Moulsdale, Eric James Moulsdale, Peggy Jean Moulesdale, Mary Ann Joyce Moulsdale, and Hugh Maxwell Moulsdale. George Moulsdale died at age 82 years old on June 13, 1970 in Warrnambool.

In 1888, in the year that George Frederick Moulsdale was born, on July 25th, a court stenographer from Salt Lake City - Frank Edward McGurrin - decisively beat the competition in a typing contest in Ohio. He was supposedly the only person who used touch typing and is believed to have invented the method. Touch typing is ubiquitous now - but Frank's win is what convinced everyone that the method was good!
