  • Obituary

George M. Hoose was most well known as what's today known as an "outsider artist." His paintings often depicted the local landscapes, for which he used the surrounding mountains as his inspiration. He also was known to paint other subjects, such as western and ocean scenes. He was entirely self-taught, and continued painting and teaching local residents until his eyesight failed him.

Add Memories, Stories & Photos about George

George was one of my late Great-aunt Mary's best friends. He was her painting teacher, and he gave her one of his larger paintings--an oil on board which I was told was titled "Colorado Roundup." Which my great-aunt gifted to me for my 7th birthday, and which the only item I've retained from my childhood. Mary often talked fondly of George, and told stories which unfortunately I can't write on here, but he sounded like quite the character. And I heard so much about him, I felt I knew him myself.
